1. What is a Career Coach?
A Career Coach is someone who can guide you through a transitional process whether you are currently working and are considering a job or career change, are unemployed and not sure what to do next, or you may be entering the workplace for the first time or re-entering the workplace. We will help you to view yourself as a salesperson selling your work and life experiences using proven marketing strategies you never considered before. Our objective is not to place you in a job, but rather to empower you with effective tools for you to use in your search. We also act as a networking partner to other people and opportunities on your behalf.

2. What will Changing Directions do for me?
- We will review your current resumé or we may need to design and develop a more effective resumé that will better highlight your achievements, education or experience. A chronological resumé is not always the best choice.
- We will provide effective and detailed networking information including ways to utilize the Internet and options you never considered before to find that next, more satisfying job.
- We will suggest tools, (and help you create them) such as cover letters and a portfolio that will better represent you.
- We will discuss what to expect in an interview, how to send a confident message through your handshake, what is meant by “tell me about yourself” or “what are your weaknesses?”
- We will be your coach, cheerleader and sounding board! We’ll also be honest and tell you things human resource managers can’t and your friends and family won’t.

3. Why would I use Changing Directions as a Career Coach?
- We have only YOUR best interest in mind.
- We don’t rely on cookie cutter solutions for each client or “textbook counseling.” We draw from personal, real-life experiences. By providing empathy, we connect with each client so they don’t feel alone, embarrassed or inadequate.
- We are your cheerleader and encourager through the process. As questions arise, or you need someone to bounce an idea off from, we are there for you.
- Changing Directions is a BETTER BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
- A counselor will charge about $100 a hour and no resumé
- A resumé writing service will type you a resumé with no consultation
- A free service, well, you get what you pay for.
- We help the whole person!! We help you deal with the emotional baggage AND determine the BEST resumé for you and more!!! Pricing is determined on individual needs.

4. If I know I want to change or transition, but I don’t know how, will you help me and how?
- We will discuss what you’ve done as well as what your passion may be and offer simple assessments during a consultation. We may make suggestions and provide other options available to you such as college career services, recommend web sites for other assessments (free or fee) or books that may help you in determining fields of interest or personality style (You probably know what that passion is already, you’ve just buried it or dismissed it as a possibility…it gets buried deeper the older we get).

5. I’ve sent out over 100 resumés and I can’t get an interview and I’m feeling depressed! How will Changing Directions help me?
- We will discuss what you’ve been doing and determine why it hasn’t been working. Possible reasons why what you’ve been doing may not be working:
Your resumé stinks!
- It has typos
- It doesn’t highlight your strengths - only your “responsibilities”
- It’s five pages long
- It undersells you
- You’re using the same resumé for every job – even if the job is unrelated to your experience or education
- You don’t know the rules of the job search game
- You’re throwing darts in the dark (doing a mass mailing to whoever and whatever and hope someone looks at your resumé)
- You aren’t looking at yourself as a something to sell –only as something that someone might choose if nothing better is available

6. You’ve had interviews, but no offers – why?
Where are you in the grieving process? If you’ve lost your job for any number of reasons, you’re going through the grieving process. Job loss is one of the top three high stress areas – right up there with the death of a loved one. If you are at the anger stage of grief, how do you think that comes out in an interview? We will discuss how to deal with and merge you to the “acceptance” stage of grief with the use of video and other helpful techniques.

8. Will Changing Directions find me a job?
Changing Directions is not a recruiter or a job placement service; we merely provide a bridge between the need of the employer and job seeker.
